Outline for the Third Term Paper

Special Effects in Animation and Live-Action

I would like to talk about the use of crazy extreme blood in media. There are many ways to achieve this look, from CGI to plastic bags under the actors shirt. The sheer amount of blood often contributes to comedy, whether intended or not.

Arguably started on the film Sanjuro, where there was a malfunction for the pump and the director decided to keep it in.

In the first kill Bill they filled condoms with blood and put them under the actors clothes.

In 300, they use CG and try to make it match the style of the comic book.

There are many different ways to achieve this look, and the only thing audiences will wonder is how they contained that much blood in the first place.
